Where is Owen Sound ?
That’s mostly funny, but also kind of reflective.
It’s not a fault of any organization, tourism bureau, municipal government or leader. It’s just a perpetual reminder that the city profile isn’t exceptionally high on people’s radars.
A recent example was the Canadian Broomball Federation who heard a presentation delivered by Sarah Brown hoping to land the hosting rights for the 2016 Canadian Broomball Championship Tournament.
The Federation liked what they heard;
Two very good venues to conduct the games.
A well oiled organizing committee
Accommodation available for some 25 teams.
Plenty of dining options for every budget.
And solid media coverage, certainly based on the recent Provincial Tournament.
There was just one question……where IS Owen Sound ? And how far is it from the airports in Toronto, Kitchener, London & Hamilton ?
The 2016 National Broomball Championship Tournament won’t singlehandedly send the city profile skyrocketing, but it’s not out of the question to believe that once the Canadian Tournament is conducted here next April, the Broomball Community far & wide will know where Owen Sound is.
