Some of you will see your hydro bills increase next year, while some of you may be eligible for new rebates.
The Ontario government has introduced new changes to hydro bills.
Low income Ontario households will be eligible for rebates of 20-to-50 dollars a month — depending on income and family size.
But to pay for the rebate — other customers will pay about 70 cents a month more on their hydro bills, depending on how many people apply for the discounts.
Most people will see their electricity bills increase by an average of 137 dollars a year, starting January 1st.
Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli says rates are up dramatically because of the cost of eliminating coal fired electricity.
Ontario will also end the 10 per cent rebate on all hydro bills — the so-called clean energy benefit — which averaged 17 dollars a month.
The debt retirement charge of about $5.60 a month will also be scrapped beginning January 1st.
