March is a special time of the year for those Minor Hockey teams still in contention for the big prize.
Last weekend, I saw a great finish to an Atom Girls playoff game between the Owen Sound Ice Hawk & the Stratford Aces.
Lauren Taylor scored in overtime to win the game and the series for Stratford, but forget the result, the game was very well played & a tribute to both squads.
That game was followed by Game 2 of the OMHA Midget ” A ” Semifinal between the Owen Sound Crescent Club Attack & the Riverside Rangers.
The Crescent Club had no shortage of great opportunities, but failed to capitalize losing 4-1 to fall behind 2-0 in the best of 5 series.
Of note, 3 of the Riverside goals were power play markers and the other went into an empty net.
It might not be as easy as staying out of the box and scoring on your own chances, but the difference between these two teams is slight, and the game itself was great entertainment.
All of which makes Minor Hockey in March such a great experience.
