The Owen Sound Attack return from their Christmas Break with a game tonight at Barrie against the Colts.
When last viewed, the Attack were in the process of losing a wild 8-7 overtime verdict at St Catharines against the Niagara IceDogs, a game that in a lot of ways personified the first half of the season.
That is to say, there were some good moments, some poor moments & some curious moments.
To some, that may suggest Owen Sound has an inconsistent team.
That may be fair, but I personally believe, factoring in all the variables, the record is pretty good. And pretty accurate of the team that’s been iced this season.
The dilemma as the first half of the season concludes & the second half begins this week is; Owen Sound is caught in the middle.
Had they been more successful in the shootout contests, a top 3 finish would be a reasonable expectation- but not now, not in my opinion.
Likewise, while not guaranteed, Owen Sound has a firm grip on a playoff position.
So what do you do ?
Maintain the course and finish anywhere from 4th through 8th ?
Upgrade your roster and take a run at a top 4 position ?
Discard, for a second year in a row, likely to backslide, but create greater potential going forward ?
I don’t know the answer. All I know is the Attack are at Barrie tonight.
I’m Fred Wallace
