This is a great day and a great time of the year.
In the tradition of the season, I’ll burn rubber in the shop in order to get out of here as soon as possible, dash into Simcoe County, make two minor purchases to conclude the shopping portion of the season and then settle nicely into a couple of days of nothingness…..
What’s funny is- the major sports TV channels usually select Christmas to do their end of year highlight packages and if I get watching these countdowns invariably I find my self saying something like, ‘ I remember THAT ‘.
Or in some cases, the story or highlight is fresh, which in reality should be a major embarrassment to someone who makes his living covering sports.
But the truth of the matter is, I seldom watch the nightly sports packages or the big games, simply because there’s too much happening outside the TV room.
The Attack play 70 nights a year, the Knights of Meaford have 20 some home games, Hanover Raceway has 20 cards, there’s days & nights of lacrosse, fastball & Minor Hockey tournaments.
Plus, with an early wake up call on a daily basis, I miss the big league sports action on the tube.
Or do I ?
Simply put, Owen Sound, Grey & Bruce are active, very active, with an excellent selection of entertainment and drama every bit as interesting as the big leagues, although maybe not today & tomorrow because everybody is off for Christmas.
To our sporting community, I say ‘ Merry Christmas ‘, and see you in 2015
I’m Fred Wallace
