Here we go with a bunch of items.
Jean Beliveau’s funeral was yesterday.
My memories of Beliveau are limited, although I do recall he ended a lengthy playoff game in an intense series with Boston with an overtime game winner late in his career
Nobody can say with certainty whether Jean Beliveau was better as a player or as a person. Those who encountered him can attest, he was great in either category.
Chris Bigras carries himself with the same type of quiet confidence and today, he’ll be among those trying for a spot on Canada’s National Junior team.
I’ve read where he’s considered to have an outside shot at returning for a second junket to the World Juniors.
I hope that’s an inaccurate assessment. If there’s 6 or 7 guys better than Bigras, Canada’s blueline is in terrific shape.
With the World Junior camp opening, there’s a trade freeze on those players participating.
Still, you have to believe that hopeful contenders are calling middle-of-the-pack Owen Sound about Bigras to see if something can be arranged
In my view, there’s precious few teams that have the assets Owen Sound would demand in such a transaction. Maybe the Soo, but after that…..
It’s not my team, but I hope the Attack hold Chris Bigras to the end of the season, and the sense I have, at this moment, is that they will.
Finally, it’s Thursday, the weather is supposed to turn nasty, so that means the Knights of Meaford have a home game tonight, hosting Bracebridge at 7:30 pm
See you at the Castle of Pain.
I’m Fred Wallace
