I went back to my roots a week ago, to the Regional Silver Stick Championship Tournament in Midland.
There have been many changes through the years to the Silver Stick dates, venue and teams competing, but what remains is a well organized & very significant competition.
This year, I was on hand for the Bantam-Midget Finals.
The Orillia Terriers took the Bantam Championship, edging the East Gwillimbury Eagles 4-3 in the final on a pair of goals by Jordan Burnett.
The Terriers now advance to the International Silver Stick at Port Huron, Michigan January 22nd to 25th.
The Midget Championship followed.
Caleb Stephens scored 19 seconds into the game & the Collingwood Blackhawks were off the races, posting a 5-0 victory over Lindsay Muskies and earning a berth at the International Championship January 22nd to 25th in Sarnia
It’s funny, maybe sad, but if you asked me about the 1972 Peewee, the 1974 Bantam or the 1976 Midget Regional Silver Stick, I could relate all kinds of details, which to me, is a true illustration of how significant this tournament was and remains more than 40 years later.
I’m Fred Wallace
