The state of fastball in Owen Sound is in limbo, and might remain such until well into the Winter.
Various organizations in the region have successfully hosted Canadian Championships in Owen Sound over the last decade; once the National Ladies Tournament, twice the National Men’s Tournament and at least 4 times the Canadian Junior Championship has been here.
For 2015, the Canadian Senior Men’s, Senior Ladies, Junior Women’s & Midget Boys are all without a host at the moment.
Softball Canada knows Owen Sound is a great host location, but for whatever reason, no decision on awarding any of those vacant tournaments is expected until February.
We do know that Napanee is hosting the Canadian Junior Men’s Championship Tournament August 10th to the 16th, which brings us to another question………..Will Owen Sound have a Junior team in 2015 ?
A large amount of the answer depends on pitcher Matt Wardrop of Owen Sound
Wardrop has an accomplished resume in the sport and as such, he’s received inquiries from a number of organizations, including Owen Sound, inviting him to pitch for them in 2015.
Where a top flyte pitcher goes, the players follow, so Owen Sound’s Junior Fastball program next year could very well rest on where Matt Wardrop decides to play.
