An Owen Sound man is being recognized by the Province for his outstanding contribution in promoting cultural heritage.
Organizer of the Owen Sound Emancipation Festival Blaine Courtney is the winner of the Province’s Newcomer Champion Award for his work fostering a more welcoming society.
Grey Roots Museum and Archives nominated Courtney for the prestigious award.
The Newcomer Champion Award was first presented in 2007 as a way for the Province to recognize people and groups who make a difference in citizen engagement.
Courtney is responsible for keeping the Emancipation Festival healthy and vibrant and for his work promoting Black History in Grey County.
He received the award, along with 15 other people, at a ceremony in Toronto on September 24th.
