Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
In the Summer of 2003, I started doing trackside work at Hanover Raceway.
I had a ball, in fact, I still enjoy the gig a dozen years later.
In 2003, I worked for Al Keeling who was the General Manager at the track and Al believed big things were on the horizon.
He visualized the potential of Hanover Raceway expanding their race dates from the existing 30 plus dates and extending their season well into the Fall and doing well off interactive or teletheatre wagering.
I believed Al then, and even though the political landscape has changed immensely, I still believe it’s viable.
Of course, Al Keeling & I don’t carry much clout and the Hanover Raceway season concludes for 2014 tomorrow night with its 16th & final card of the season.
16 !!!!
Half as many as 2003 when Al Keeling dared to dream what a local operation could be.
When the last race for 2014 goes tomorrow night, there will be much to celebrate and admire at the track for the season.
But in my heart, given the opportunity, I know that Hanover Raceway could be a much bigger entity, the kind of operation Al Keeling visualized more than a decade ago
I’m Fred Wallace
