Full Throttle Motor Speedway at Varney made a unique announcement last week, confirming that they will extend their auto racing season through to late October.
The track, now under the ownership of Gord Bennett, has undergone significant changes and in fairness, a lot of those changes came swiftly as it was almost race season before the new ownership took over.
Among the early alterations was to change race night from Saturday nights to Fridays and while the initial shift may have felt awkward, those at the track feel that Fridays now feel normal for race night.
The extension of the season also represents a bold move.
A number of tracks cease operations come September, but Full Throttle hopes that by extending the season, they’ll attract drivers from tracks that are closed for the season, and, potentially, those drivers may come to call the Varney facility home.
Auto racers and operators are often depicted as going around in circles, but the sequence of promotional attempts at Full Throttle represent some thinking outside the box.
