The Owen Sound Attack have traded away first round draft pick Victor Mete for a boat load of draft picks.
The
Attack sent Mete to the London Knights for six draft picks —
including three second round picks, two third round picks and a
conditional sixth round pick in 2017 that could become a third round
pick.
Mete, a defenceman, has not reported to Owen Sound since being selected 8th overall in the 2014 OHL Draft.
Attack
GM Dale DeGray says “throughout this process, I had to make sure I
traded Victor to a team that he would report to and he adds “as time
went on, the options we were presented with became less and
less.”
So the
Attack have traded Mete to London, while also securing a first round
compensation pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection since Mete decided
not to report to Owen Sound.
As
far as the draft picks are concerned, Owen Sound will receive London’s
second round picks in 2017, 2018 and 2019 as well as two third round
picks in 2015 and 2016.
The
trade also includes a conditional sixth round draft choice in 2017 for
Owen Sound, and that pick will become a third round draft choice in 2017
should Mete be selected in the first two rounds of the NHL Draft.
Mete is scheduled to be at a news conference in London at 12 PM on Tuesday.
The Attack have also announced the signing of defenseman Jacob Friend to a
standard OHL Player agreement.
Friend was a Free Agent attendee of the
Attack’s rookie camp.
DeGray says Friend will add “some depth to our back end” and adds “we were extremely pleased with how he looked this
past weekend and feel he will be a great asset to our organization
moving forward.

News Release from the OHL Attack
Owen Sound Attack General Manager Dale DeGray has traded 2014 1st
Round Pick, Victor Mete to the London Knights in exchange for three 2nd
Round draft choices (2017, 2018, 2019), two 3rd Round draft choices
(2015,2016) and a conditional 6th Round draft choice in 2017. The conditional 6th Round draft choice in 2017 will become a 3rd round draft choice in 2017 should Victor Mete be selected in the first two rounds of the NHL Draft.
The Attack will also hold the 10th pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection as compensation as well as their regular 1st Round pick, depending on order of finish.
Throughout this process, I had to make sure I
traded Victor to a team that he would report to., stated Dale DeGray.
As time went on, the options we were presented with became less and
less.
Victor Mete was the Attacks 1st Round Draft Pick, 8th Overall this past spring, however; Dale DeGray and staff knew from the start that Metes chances of reporting were slim.
If Victor decided Owen Sound was the place for
him, then great., said DeGray. But we went into this with our eyes
wide open, knowing that trading Victor would be the likeliest outcome.
Now its our job to use our compensation pick and the picks we received
from London to our advantage.
The Attack also signed defenseman Jacob Friend a
standard OHL Player agreement. Friend was a Free Agent attendee of the
Attacks Rookie Camp and was a standout during his time here.
Jacob will add some depth to our back end.,
DeGray commented. We were extremely pleased with how he looked this
past weekend and feel he will be a great asset to our organization
moving forward.
The Attack Exhibition schedule has wrapped up and the regular season will commence at home on September 24th vs. Kitchener.
