Among the many challenges for any ” event ” in our region is how to improve it; how to upgrade the experience for those involved to ensure long term participation, long term success & continued growth throughout the years, without impacting the initial appeal.
Such is the case for the annual Bayshore Race.
The 5th annual race was staged Sunday under almost perfect conditions for runners and walkers whether they were going 5k, 10k, doing the half marathon, or participating in the Kids Fun Run.
Along with the weather, the organizing committee has the function down to a science, and they are well assisted by a large number of volunteers from registration through every phase of the on-course activities.
You cannot deny the positive growth of the Bayshore Race, as they topped the 500 mark in terms of participants & as a fundraiser, the day generated in excess of $ 50,000 for the Regional Hospital Foundation.
That’s a successful event.
And now, a day or so later, the questions arise for 2015.
Can it grow in terms of participants ?
Can it grow in terms of funds generated ?
What can be enhanced ? What needs to be enhanced ?
Will pending roadwork on the course disrupt the route, or the race date for 2015 ?
Challenges, challenges, & more challenges.
The planning for the 6th annual Bayshore Race may not be officially underway, but you know the questions above and more are being examined.
I’m Fred Wallace
