A Dundalk woman has won the 2014 CNE Ambassador of the Fair.
As we told you earlier this week — 19 year old Jodie Hooker, representing the Dundalk Fair, won the crown on Sunday at the CNE.
Hooker tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there were some really great ladies and men competing, and she is honoured to be chosen.
The competition was last weekend, Hooker was chosen by seven judges based on interviews from a total of 65 contestants.
The list was whittled down to seven, and they each delivered a prepared speech on Agriculture, Agricultural Societies or some aspect of the fair they represent.
Hooker says she chose a theme based on the Dundalk Fall Fair which is the fair she represents this year, her speech was called ‘Back to Our Roots’.
Hooker adds ‘Back to our Roots’ has two meanings, the Roots part is a reminder of how important agriculture is in our community and country.
And the second represents the history of the fair, having a strong agriculture background.
Hooker says then the top three were chosen, who had to answer a question, which determined the overall winner.
Her question was “what advice would you give to a future ambassador?”
Hooker says her advice was to try every opportunity you get, and each time you go to an event try to learn at least one new thing.
Hooker says she is proud to call the small town of Dundalk her home town, and glad to have the chance to represent the fair.
Jodie was the Junior and Senior Ambassador of the Dundalk fair, and has had public speaking experience, including being chosen for the grade 12 valedictorian speech at Grey Highlands Secondary School.
She tells us it is a major event in her life, and she is sure it will be a memorable year.
Hooker says until Labour Day she will go to different events, concerts and more across the CNE grounds, and will be attending different fall fair events across Ontario throughout the year.
Jodie is in her third year at the University of Western Ontario in London taking Health Sciences, looking for a career in Health.
She is hoping the skills and confidence she gains as the CNE Ambassador of the Fair, as well as people she meets will help her in the future.
