The stance of Victor Mete, reluctant first round draft pick of the Owen Sound Attack, remains the same, according to his advisor Darren Ferris.
…………..
So let’s move on.
Come Monday, when the Attack open their Ontario Hockey League rookie camp, the second Mete is officially absent, he becomes labelled as ” defected “.
The Attack, by my count, have 3 options.
Option # 1……..fry him, or freeze him, that is, do nothing, hold his rights and force him to exercise another hockey option, be it Midget or USJHL.
I’m all for Option # 1, but I doubt Owen Sound would be that spiteful, and jeopardize potential returns available through options # 2 & 3.
Option # 2, is to deal Mete to another OHL club for draft picks between Monday & September 15th.
In that scenario, the Attack would also be additionally compensated with the # 9 pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.
This scenario is most likely with close to a half dozen teams already making inquiries.
Finally, option # 3, in the event of no deal before September 15th, Owen Sound could deal Mete later in the season, during a 10 day window, and possibly recoup a player ( or players ), picks and a 2nd round compensation pick.
Whatever route is taken, I consider this sequence to be garbage, historical garbage, garbage that could be, and should have been, rectified decades ago by the operators of the OHL.
My final words on Victor Mete will be aired tomorrow.
I’m Fred Wallace
