We’re approaching a significant deadline.
On Friday, voting will cease in the latest round of balloting for the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame
The survivors will advance to the final stage of voting where three Athletes and one Contributor with the most votes will become the Class of 2014 and join Rocky Balboa in the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame.
We all know Rocky Balboa, the Philadelphia underdog boxer who split two decisions with Apollo Creed; losing the first bout in a judges decision, but then capturing the Heavyweight Championship with a thrilling last second knockout of Creed in the rematch.
As ficitious athletes go, Balboa was an excellent choice as the first inductee into that Hall of Fame.
So who’s next ?
Among the fictious athletes still in contention are Rocky’s rival & friend Apollo Creed, plus Billy Chapel of the Detroit Tigers, Minor League Home Run record holder Crash Davis & Reggie Dunlop of the Charleston Chiefs
Reading the list of those eligible is both hilarious and reflective of how sports and the characters who perform infiltrate our world and test our sense of reality
I don’t have a vote for the Fictious Athlete Hall of Fame, but if they ever are looking for input, I’d be glad to share.
I’m Really Fred Wallace
