Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
Last week I was talking about the beer machines at Target Field in Minnesota lamenting the bypass of human interaction in the name of speed and convenience for the consumer while making a transaction.
On a different level, but still puzzling, comes Andrew Robert Rector, a New York Yankees fan who filed lawsuit against ESPN announcers Dan Shulman and John Kruk
Rector contends Shulman and Kruk mocked him when he was caught on national television sleeping in his seat during a game at Yankee Stadium.
The mocking according to Rector included an “avalanche of disparaging words” like “fatty” and “stupid.”
According to Rector, he suffered “substantial injury” to his “character and reputation” and “mental anguish, loss of future income and loss of earning capacity.”
ESPN, Major League Baseball and the Yankees are all named as defendants in the suit which is seeking………$ 10 million dollars.
$ 10 million dollars !!! Come on.
The bothersome part of this is that, as insensitive & juvenile as Shulman & Kruk may or may not have been, this guy’s likely to profit from the fiasco and that like the beer machines of Minnesota is further indication of where we’re going as a society
I’m Fred Wallace
