Target Field apparently is the first major league ball park to serve beer……. from a vending machine.
The self-serve beer station debuted earlier this year when the Minnesota Twins hosted the New York Yankees.
A second machine was added for the All-Star Game.
In order to buy a brew from the vending machine, buyers prove their age at a concession stand and purchase a vending card.
That card is used at the vending machine where buyers can tap up to 48 ounces every 15 minutes.
The Target Field machines offer 4 varities: Bud, Bud Light, Shock Top Lemon Shandy and Goose Island 312 Urban Pale Ale.
Similar to the concession stands, the machines stop dispensing beer by the seventh inning and for surveillance, a stadium employee is stationed near the machine, just in case………….
Is this what we’ve evolved to ? Convenience for the consumer at the expense of human interaction ?
In some rinks and ball parks, the best entertainment some games is provided by the vendors, like Cone Head in Buffalo who incessantly shouts all night, ‘ Whooooo wants a COLD Beeeeeeeeeeeeerrrr. ‘
Personally, I’d rather make a purchase from Cone Head rather than R2D2.
