Among the many celebrities at the 19th annual Jeff Preston-Rotary Celebrity Golf Classic was Toronto Maple Leafs legend Bobby Baun.
Items connected to Baun and his tenure with the Leafs were huge fundraisers at the 2014 tournament which supports research to combat Muscular Dystrophy
One piece auctioned was a print of ” The Goal “, a famous moment in Stanley Cup folklore, now 50 years old
In Game 6 of the 1964 Stanley Cup Final against Detroit, Baun blocked a shot that would cause his ankle to break.
While he left the playing surface on a stretcher, Baun was treated in the dressing room and returned to the game in overtime to score the game winning goal that forced Game 7 in the series, a series the Leafs would capture with a 4-0 win over the Red Wings in the deciding game.
