Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
From one draft to the next.
After the National Hockey League Entry Draft concluded on Saturday in Philadelphia, the scramble, if not the manipulation, to land imports is underway for Canadian Hockey League teams including the Owen Sound Attack.
The CHL Import Draft is Wednesday, the Attack pick 22nd overall and Owen Sound General Manager Dale DeGray isn’t hiding the fact he will select a forward.
And why not, with a pending defence corps of Bigras, Centorame, MacArthur, Schemitsch, Sharipzyanov & Walters, not to mention the reluctant Victor Mete, does Owen Sound need a defender ?
But with the desire to select a forward confirmed, the plan becomes flexible for Owen Sound with a couple options.
In the perfect scenario, Owen Sound will take a forward whose NHL rights were scooped up over the weekend. In fact, I’d assume that’s what GM DeGray has been up to for the 48 hours.
However, if the scenario isn’t perfect, DeGray relates he’d be almost equally as comfortable to select an import, allow the import to play at home for a season and then hopefully insert him in the lineup come 2015.
I’m Fred Wallace
