I’m going to miss the Garb & Gear NorthStars Junior B lacrosse game tonight against Guelph.
The NorthStars will host the Regals at 8 pm, and while I’ll be absent, I do want to wish the Owen Sound lads the best of luck in their desperate pursuit of a playoff spot.
Instead of lacrosse, I’m going to take in the the 22nd annual Crimestoppers Golf Tournament at the Chippewa Golf Club in Southampton
This event has been a fixture on the calendar for decades, and as a fundraiser for the Crimestoppers of Grey-Bruce it’s been terrific.
Through the years there have been terrific guests and guest speakers, and this year’s presentation will be made by Peter Mahovlich who returns as the key celebrity.
Peter Mahovlich was at the event a few years ago and what stood out wasn’t his memories of the NHL, the 1972 Summit Series or the great Canadiens teams of the mid 70’s.
Instead, what impressed me was the brief moment Mahovlich took to recognize Lane MacDermid, Brett MacLean & Justin Peters.
At the time, all three were toiling in Minor Pro Hockey, but Mahovlich, as a pro scout knew all of them, and in a brief but significant moment, let them know that eyes are always on players and to keep at it.
There are many levels of success on an annual basis at the Crimestoppers of Grey-Bruce Golf Tournament at Chippewa, but I’m most eager to hear the remarks from the returning guest speaker Peter Mahovlich today
I’m Fred Wallace
