These are among my favorite days on the calendar every year.
Whenever the Montreal Canadiens get eliminated it brings me great joy to remind their fans, especially the Ontario based, primarily English speaking Hab fans, that Les Glorieux have NOT won a Stanley Cup SINCE 1993.
And even then, if Kerry Fraser had made the right call on Gretzky in the semifinals, there’s no doubt the Toronto Maple Leafs would have won the Cup that year.
So essentially, Montreal hasn’t legitimately won the Stanley Cup SINCE 1986 !
And even THEN, if the Oilers Steve Smith didn’t bank one into his own net, NO WAY would Edmonton have lost.
So really, Montreal hasn’t truly won a Stanley Cup since 1979 !!
And even THEN, if Don Cherry didn’t have too many Bruins on the ice and if the the Rangers hadn’t upset the Islanders that year, I’m thinking Montreal would be without a Stanley Cup since 1978.
You may disagree with my thesis here………but it doesn’t sully the enjoyment, and relief, I felt last Thursday night.
