We all go through this, you know, something kind of sneaks up on us and we find ourselves scrambling at the end to get ready for the start.
Multiply that by thousand times if you’re Jason Thom and you’re operating Sauble Speedway.
Sauble Speedway’s season opener is Saturday night and it’s doubtful the auto racers will generate as much speed as Thom and his work crew prior to Saturday’s Green Flag.
This year’s scramble has been heightened by a tougher than usual winter in these parts that was both slow to depart and damaged a lot of items while it raged.
Last weekend, the testing at Sauble went very smooth, with the new tech area holding its own from the Winter of 14.
But Saturday night when the full spectrum of divisions at the track get rolling for the season, that might be another story.
Regardless of the scramble, Jason Thom is encouraged about a number of aspects of the operation.
He believes the new tech area will keep the competitive playing field level.
He’s optimistic about the state of the economy and discretionary income in the region.
And with better purse money available at the track, Jason Thom sees a winning combination.
That is, as long as he can get gates open and the cars started on time Saturday.
I’m Fred Wallace
