The former owner of the Independent Grocer in Port Elgin is now in the restaurant business.
Marcel Legault — who is also a Saugeen Shores councillor — has announced he has purchased a Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet franchise that will be located in south Port Elgin.
Legault says the Port Elgin store will be the third such facility featuring a new concept by the company.
A month ago the first stores opened in Napanee and Elmira.
Legault says it’s called Harvey’s Plus which is a Harvey’s, serving Swiss Chalet and will seat about 80 people.
He says they’ll have two separate kitchens, a take-out window and he’s working on a home delivery option as well.
Legault says the restaurant will be located in front of the Dollar Tree store, on the site of the former Canadian Tire gas bar on Goderich Street in south Port Elgin.
He hopes to be open in late August or mid-September at the latest.
Legault isn’t sure how many jobs will be created with the new facility but perhaps around 30, both full time and part time positions.
He says he’s really excited to be bringing the franchise to the area and to that end, he’s already been schooled in how a Harvey’s and Swiss Chalet outlet operates.
He’s been working at outlets to get a feel of what is expected when he opens his own restaurant.
