On March 9th, my good friend, Whitey, & I were in Buffalo to see the Sabres & the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks lineup features former Owen Sound Attack forward Andrew Shaw who was an integral player in the OHL Championship season of 2011.
We were staying at the Embassy Suites in Buffalo, the same hotel where the Blackhawks were staying.
And while I tried hard to connect with Andrew to say ” hi ” before the game, it wasn’t to be.
Sure, we ran into every Shaw there was at the Pearl Street Grill and on the escalator at the First Niagara Centre, but not Andrew.
No matter.
Without our best wishes, Andrew Shaw went out and had a terrific game.
Playing on a line with Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad, he had two glorious break in chances which were only denied by solid goalkeeping from Buffalo’s Jhonas Enroth.
After the second great chance, I remembered that in Andrew Shaw’s Attack debut at Guelph on September 24th, 2010 he was denied on two break-ins by Brandon Foote.
Honestly, I didn’t foresee an NHL career that night at Guelph for Andrew Shaw, and I don’t think anyone did.
But there he was on March 9th in Buffalo, an NHL first liner, with a Blackhawks Stanley Cup ring to boot.
I just wish I could have said hello
I’m Fred Wallace
