I don’t watch a lot of NHL Hockey.
Between this & that, there’s not always time.
Still, if you’re any kind of hockey fan, you can’t hide on the major players and the stars of the sport- they’re just so visible at every turn.
Imagine my surprise on Sunday March 9th, when the elevator door at the Embassy Suites in Buffalo opened and Jonathan Toews, captain of the Stanley Cup winning Chicago Blackhawks, walked in.
Me. And Jonathan Toews.
Now, I understand Toews is a very serious player and person.
Still, I couldn’t resist and quickly introduced myself and explained that I was from Owen Sound and had watched Andrew Shaw play for a year with the Attack.
Jonathan Toews said………………………………………..nothing.
In fairness, I’m sure he hears pitches all day, every day, and maybe he wondered if I was playing some sort of angle, hoping to capitalize in some way on this chance encounter.
I wasn’t. I was simply amused that 40 fans were waiting behind a make-shift barricade to see their heroes, and inadvertently, I stumbled into a face-to-face with the biggest star on the team.
When the elevator got to the bottom, Toews politely acknowledged me with a ” have good day ” ……….or something.
Trying to keep up with the pleasantries, I scrambled and offered, ‘ have a good game tonight,………………………………, ANDREW. “
I wondered if JONATHAN Toews noticed.
I’m Fred Wallace
