Wasaga Beach’s transit service will be changing hands, despite a last minute plea from the head of the current provider.
President and General Manager of Georgian Shores Transportation, Doug Harrison, made a presentation to council on Tuesday night before Council approved a committee recommendation to go with Sinton Landmark for the next five years.
Sinton came out on top in the tendering process and the town will save $46,000 a year.
But Harrison told Council he doesn’t believe the new provider has a realistic grasp on what it really costs to run the Wasaga Beach bus service and that Georgian Shores does since they’ve been doing it since the service started up in 2008.
Harrison says Georgian Shores Transportation’s bid included estimates for added maintenance and insurance costs.
He asked council why they don’t promote local business with a good track record and low costs.
Mayor Cal Patterson told Harrison that Georgian Shores came in highest in terms of cost out of the four in the tendering process. Patterson added that points were awarded for other criteria and Georgian finished third.
Harrison told Bayshore Broadcasting News he doesn’t understand where that information is coming from because he was told something different.
Mayor Patterson said service provided by Georgian Shores Transportation has been good, but this decision makes good business sense.
The service will change over August 1st.
