The Canadian Broomball Championships were staged at Calgary last week.
The Kilsyth Phantoms advanced to the Gold Medal Game before they were stunned 4-3 in overtime by the Quebec Pogos.
The Phantoms led the Championship Game 3-2 before the Pogos would tie it with just 2 seconds to play and then went on to score the heart-breaking overtime winner.
Broomball doesn’t enjoy the highest profile in local sports, but those who play it, certainly play it with passion & zest.
The Phantoms are in the process of attempting to bring the Ontario Championship Tournament to Owen Sound for 2015.
Preliminary discussions between the Broomball club, the city of Owen Sound & the various partners that might be affected are well underway, with the city supporting the Phantoms request last night at council
The Kilsyth Phantoms would like to stage the affair at the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre, & the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Commun ity Centre.
In 1996, Kilsyth hosted the Ontario Broomball Championships at the old Coliseum in Owen Sound and the enduring visual I have is of a packed parking lot, which if duplicated come 2015, would be great for everyone, whether you’re into broomball or not.
