Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
When I was away last month in Hawaii, I took a bunch of reading material.
Among the selections I carted around was ” Leaf Abomination ” by Michael Grange & Dave Feschuk, written almost half a decade ago.
” Leaf Abomination ” deals with the fate & misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs from their last Stanley Cup in 1967, interestingly the original price of the book was……. $ 19.67.
As I sat on the beaches of Oahu, Kauai, Maui & Kona, I was fascinated again as the pages unfolded, re-telling the familiar names, dates & events that have conspired to give Leaf fans more than 4 decades of misery.
I was also fascinated by the realization that even though there’s been big changes in the last half decade with the Leafs, really not much has changed.
No matter who owns the team, no matter who runs the team, no matter who coaches the team, no matter what star plays for Toronto, and no matter how loyal and long suffering the fans are, the Leafs exist from one fiasco to fiasco, letdown to letdown and they won’t win the Stanley Cup, again, this year.
Maybe next year for Leaf Abomination.
I’m Fred Wallace
