Let’s have a show of hands………how many of you have heard of Evan White ?
Well, Evan White of the Oakville Aquatic Club is coming to Owen Sound this weekend in search of Canadian records and cash.
The 2nd McDonald’s-Canadian Record Challenge is being hosted by the Owen Sound Aquatic Club at the Y Pool and White has dipped into the pool and the cash register previously.
Last year in the inaugural running of this event, White established a Canadian age record in an individual discipline and also shared the cash when the Oakville relay team set new standards in 2 other races.
Every time a Canadian record is broken at this meet, the record setter pockets $ 1,000 courtesy of the Owen Sound Aquatic Club and their sponsors, primarily McDonald’s.
A year later, and here comes Evan White again.
Now he’s 18 years old.
Now he’s a member of the Canadian Commonwealth Swim Team.
Now he’s a member of Canada’s entry for the Pan Pacific Games.
And now he’ll be aiming for the all time Canadian record for the 200 metre I.M.
Plus, by anchoring Oakville relay teams, the possibility exists that once again 3 National Swim records will be established in the Y Pool in Owen Sound.
Truthfully, I didn’t know who Evan White was either, but I’m certainly interested to see how he does this weekend at the 2nd McDonald’s-Canadian Record Challenge.
I’m Fred Wallace
