The weekend ahead, as always, offers plenty of variety for the sports fan.
Among the unique events is the SCTA Midget Playoff Tournament, based mostly at the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound.
As in other years, with other age brackets, the tournament is being hosted by the Grey Bruce Highlanders organization and, in this case, the Midget Highlanders.
Play starts tomorrow morning, bright and early with the first game commencing at 9 am on Rink # 1 and then the second contest starting 30 minutes later on Rink # 2.
The Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre is the perfect venue for the 9 team tournament; two rinks just a slapshot apart making coordination and communication for the event exceptionally easy.
As mentioned, the Midget Highlanders are among the 9 teams competing, looking for a home ice title after what was a very good season.
In 32 league games, Grey-Bruce went 22-6 & 4, finishing in a tie for second with the Burlington Eagles, 14 back of the regular season champion Oakville Rangers.
Grey-Bruce will play 4 round robins games over the first two days.
Tomorrow, the Highlanders face the Guelph Gryphons at 11 & then meet the Niagara NorthStars at 3:30.
Then Saturday, Grey-Bruce has a huge game at 11 against Oakville and wraps up the round robin at 3:30 with a second game against Guelph.
If they finish in the top 2 in their pool, they’ll play Sunday at 10 am in the semifinal, at the Rec Centre with the Championship Game scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.
Here’s hoping you have a ” AAA ” weekend ahead.
I’m Fred Wallace
