Well, it’s Thursday night….and I’ve got nothing to do.
For most Thursdays from October til now, I’ve been in Meaford for a Knights game at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre, a.k.a. ” The Castle of Pain. “
First and foremost, being totally honest, I loved it.
The Knights of Meaford created a similar experience to the one I enjoy so much at Hanover Raceway.
That is going into another community, watching a combination of sport & community promotion and getting a vastly better understanding of the region I live and work in.
Now, from a hockey standpoint, again, I’ll be totally honest, by saying while it wasn’t always great, it never once was boring or uneventful.
The Knights of Meaford made it through their first year, survived 7 straight on the road to start, they fought what was a losing battle to be a top 10 team, won 2 separate playoff elimination games before being wiped out by a very good Bradford Bulls team in a best of 5 series.
No shame in any of that, in fact quite a lot to be proud of.
Next year ?
Well, the key people in the organization are quickly planning for a second season and personally, I’m eager to see how it unfolds, if only so I know where I’ll be on most Thursday nights.
I’m Fred Wallace
