Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
Let’s roll out some hockey today
At the Winter Olympics in the Women’s Final yesterday, what a finish
Down 2-0 to the United States, Canada got on the board, pulled the goalie, got blindsided by a linesman, dodged an empty net bullet by the tiniest margin, tied the game, went shorthanded first in OT, and then won the Gold Medal on a power play in overtime.
Meanwhile, with today being semifinal Friday at the Olympics, do you think the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League care ?
The Islanders, trapped in yet another lost season, lost their biggest asset when John Tavares suffered significant damage to his left knee.
He’s out for the season and the extended damage to Tavares and the Islanders black-cloud hockey operation remain to be seen.
Last night, I saw the Knights of Meaford play Game 2 of their Greater Metro Junior A Playoff series against the Bradford Bulls.
Bradford scored on their first two shots and went on to take a 2-0 series lead with a 6-1 victory.
For what it’s worth, the Bulls scored the first 19 goals in the series, before Patrick Larsson Ramstrom would account for the final goal in contest and maybe foreshadow a Knights run.
Keep in mind that Game 3 in that series is tomorrow night, again at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre at 7:30.
The Western Junior C Semifinals could wrap up tonight if Wingham wins at Hanover and Walkerton wins at Kincardine tonight.
& this evening the Attack are off to Kitchener to try and derail a late playoff bid by the Rangers, then tomorrow on Bayshore Broadcasting Hockey Night in Owen Sound, the Attack host Saginaw in a key game before which Plater star Andrew Brunette will be honoured.
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
