Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
The regular season for the Chesley-Tara Insurance Major Curling League concluded on Wednesday night. Sort of.
Seven of the 8 playoff teams were confirmed, but three rinks finished with records of 6 & 7 in the 13 game round robin which means two tiebreakers are needed to determine the 8th place finisher, who will be the final qualifier for the playoff round.
The first tie-breaker goes tonight at 8:30 at the Blue Water Curling Club in Owen Sound.
The Absalute Automotive rink skipped by Don Bartley will face Joe Rettinger ‘s Tara rink representing Marketplace Magazine
The winner tonight will stay alive and advance to the second tiebreaker on Tuesday night in Tara against DeDell Seeds skipped by Tom Slumskie.
The winner Tuesday night comes right back the following night at Chesley in the quarterfinals to meet the regular season champion Merit Insurance rink skipped by Steve Gregg from Paisley.
The 4 quarterfinal winners from Chesley will come back to Blue Water for the semifinals and finals on Sunday February 2nd.
I know the Chesley-Tara Insurance Major Curing League Finals don’t rank with Ground Hog Day or the Super Bowl, also on the 2nd, but for a league that has 2 tie-breakers and 7 teams in the post season above .500, it’s pretty impressive.
I’m Fred Wallace
