Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
The Ontario Hockey League Trade Deadline is today at noon.
Yesterday, the Owen Sound Attack made their second deal within the division sending veteran defenceman Kurtis MacDermid to the Erie Otters in exchange for three second rounders and a conditional third round pick.
The day before, Owen Sound essentially dispatched Gemel Smith to London for Kyle Platzer & Santino Centorame.
I get why people are bummed about these deals.
Having said that, I get the intent of the Attack going forward.
In Platzer and Centorame, buried on the lineup depth chart at London, Owen Sound should have 2 serviceable players here for much longer than Gemel Smith would; here or London.
In the case of MacDermid, on paper, that equates to a 1 for 4 deal, and to the credit of MacDermid’s development and DeGray’s demands, those picks are high.
Furthermore, envision an Owen Sound blueline next year, without overagers, without underagers, that could conceivably contain Bigras, Annecchiarico, Centorame, Schemitsch, Sharipzyanov, MacArthur, Walters and potentially Masonius.
Now add 3 seconds to utilize or deal going forward.
So the trade deadline passes today at noon and the Attack prep for home games tonight against Erie and tomorrow against Sarnia
I’m Fred Wallace
