When it comes to wasting your time, and especially when it comes to wasting your money, the Canadian government is the blue ribbon champion.
The most recent example was the grandiose display in announcing Canada’s Olympic Men’s Hockey Team on Tuesday morning.
Actually, they started on Tuesday morning, but by the time they finished the speeches and ceremonies significant time had elapsed.
Really.
Did we need all those speakers, including the MP from Bugtussle, to offer their comments on the process ?
Is there not some hippy-dippy government p.r. flack or campaign manager who could have used their considerable skills to impress upon the speakers the significance of making their remarks brief ?
Did we really need an 80 minute run-up show on TSN to examine the possible candidates ? They’ve been doing that since the Vancouver Olympics ended.
Brutal. Brutal. Brutal.
And I assume at great cost to the Canadian Taxpayer, a large portion of whom are more concerned with their day to day grind in this country and aren’t the least bit interested in hockey or the Olympics.
I’ll root for Canada in Men’s Hockey at the Olympics, but the results next month need to be golden or terrific after that staggering display of government excess on Tuesday.
I’m Fred Wallace
