I watched the Owen Sound Kunkel Bus Lines Attack play the Elmvale Coyotes Saturday afternoon in a Georgian Bay Bantam game at the JD McArthur Arena.
As I was reading the starting lineups, the name that jumped off the page at me, from the Elmvale roster, was # 12 Noah Bouzis, son of the head coach, Paul Bouzis.
Without getting in to it too far, suffice it to say I’ve spent time in Mr Bouzis’ office, so following the game, I went down to say ” hello “.
As it turns out, Paul Bouzis was actually on his way up to say ” hello ” to me and naturally we got chatting about the Elmvale junket to Sweden which commences in 8 days.
It goes without saying that the Coyotes are eagerly anticipating their hockey trip,
In fact, some of the Coyotes are to be billeted at the Burakovsky home during the World Junior Hockey Championship; that’s Andre Burakovsky of the Erie Otters who will be at home in Sweden while the Elmvale Coyotes are there. Burakovsky, a Washington Capitals prospect will be playing for his country at the World Juniors in Malmo.
Naturally, I got into sharing my experiences from 1976-77 when the Midland Legion Midgets went to Mora, Sweden and how we saw the Soviet Wings play the Swedes, and later ran across a terrific midget player from Leksand named Thomas Steen, and on and on amd on.
The Legion Midget trip was 37 years ago, and while many of the memories are still vivid, the lament is that I’m not 14 today and not a member of the Elmvale Coyotes who are heading to Sweden on Boxing Day
