A wider choice of products and a cleaner, brighter grocery store is the result of weeks of renovations at Rowland’s Independent Grocer in Saugeen Shores.
Owners Scott and Kathy Rowland unveiled the new operation on Friday with Mayor Mike Smith, Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau, grocery staff, Loblaw representatives and shoppers looking on.
Scott Rowland says it was time for a change at the store.
He says customers needs change and they needed to change to meet those needs.
Rowland says the store is still the same 48,000 square foot facility but it looks bigger because of strategic adjustments in the shopping area.
He says the re-opening will not result in new jobs at this time.
Rowland says they have a good staff and any extra staff will come with increased volume at the store, such as what happens in the summertime.
Cost of the renovations was not given but Rowland says it was a substantial investment because he and his wife are here for the long haul, hoping to operate the store for the next ten years at least.
To celebrate the reopening, Rowland’s donated $500 to Ed Giles of the Salvation Army Food Bank in Port Elgin and announced they will be taking food and donations for the entire month of December to help out those less fortunate.
