Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
I checked my bank account this week……
One month before Christmas, I have $ 35. It’s been a tough year, no question.
Therefore, it’s almost heartening to know that I’m not the only one struggling.
For example, lets look at the sport of hockey, in particular the business of hockey, based on two stories this week.
Rogers Communications & the National Hockey League reached a 12 year agreement for the league’s broadcast and multimedia rights.
The price tag ?…………….$5.2-billion dollars.
Also this week, Forbes Magazine, who certainly understand finances, ranked the value of National Hockey League teams.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, non-winners of the Stanley Cup since 1967, are worth an NHL-high………………… $1.15 billion.
I don’t begrudge these business moguls their success.
Rogers has built an empire gouging the starved for content couch potato while the Leafs annually promise much and deliver, really, nothing to their loyal fan base.
These obviously are highly successful business models & if I was shrewder with cash, I’d have more than $ 35 to my shopping with.
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
