Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
The football season for the Saugeen District Royals concluded last week when they were eliminated in the CWOSSA Semifinal by the Brantford Assumption Lions.
The Lions scored 4 majors in the first half on their way to a 38-16 victory over Saugeen District.
I don’t see a lot of high school football, but I can’t ever remember seeing a better offensive display than the one exhibited by the Lions last week in Port Elgin.
The central figure for the offence was quarterback Liam Putt who had an amazing selection of options to utilize and put together some huge plays.
Running back Kurtis Loweig scored two majors, one on a very precise screen play that went 69 yards.
Putt’s brother, Emmett also scored two majors, one on a pass-catch & run that covered half the field.
It was an awesome display, no question, as Brantford earned the right to play for the CWOSSA title.
For Saugeen District, versatile Colton Hall combined for all 16 of their points.
That’s not to say Hall was a one man show, but for the Saugeen District Royals, as hard as they played, they fully realize how steep the slope is from Bluewater play to the CWOSSA Playdowns.
I’m Fred Wallace
