Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
This is the 25th year of OHL Hockey in Owen Sound.
If you asked me to select the top 10 performers over that time, in chronological order, my list would be; Maltby, Brunette, Walker, Snyder, Mair, Richardson, Ryan, Sekera, Hishon & Binnington.
You may disagree and that’s fine.
Cameron Brace is not in my Top 10, but that’s not to say I’m not a fan.
Change the list and select the top 10 resumes of any Owen Sound junior, and in my opinion, Brace would be second only to Jordan Binnington.
Here’s a sketch of Cameron Brace’s days in Owen Sound;
-Made the team, eventually, as an underage
-Won the Robertson Cup in 2011
– As a rookie, scored the overtime winner in Game 4 of the Championship Series against St Mike’s on the most significant breakaway in franchise history. I still get chills on that play.
– More significantly, dug the puck out of the scrum to set up Jarrod Maidens for the Championship marker at Mississauga in a Game 7 for the ages.
– followed with 29 and 35 goal campaigns, led the league in shorthanded goals and holds a share of the Owen Sound franchise record for points in 1 game.
To me, it’s a pretty impressive resume, yet in the ongoing cycle of Junior Hockey, Cameron Brace now plays for Belleville and in an irony, a player who accomplished more than almost anybody for Owen Sound will be back at the Bayshore tomorrow night playing for the Bulls when they face the Attack.
I’m Fred Wallace
