Sunday afternoon, I was looking at the rosters for the Greater Metro Junior A game between the Knights of Meaford and the Alliston Coyotes when I came across the name ” Chris Brown “.
This had to be the same Chris Brown, an Alliston native, who played or the Owen Sound Attack a few years back.
Sure enough it was, and sure enough Chris Brown had a terrific game, generating scoring chances all day, scoring twice including the game winner with just 46 seconds remaining in overtime as the Coyotes nipped the Knights 6-5 in a game that had a great finish with Meaford rallying from a 5-2 deficit to force overtime.
Following the game, naturally, I had to speak to the Captain of the Coyotes and get his take on his game winning goal and his hockey path.
Drafted by the Attack, Chris Brown was called up from the Alliston Hornets for 3 games in 2009 and looked good for an underage..
The following season, he showed early promise, scoring twice for the Attack in back to back road games.
And while I thought here’s a guy with a decent touch, it never developed.
Undaunted, Brown went back to Alliston and played with a variety of Junior clubs before suiting up this year for the Coyotes and former NHL’er Joe Murphy.
The Knights of Meaford are back in action tonight at 7:30 against the Shelburne Red Wings.
I wonder who I’ll see on the roster sheet tonight.
I’m Fred Wallace
