After 21 years in Owen Sound, Kelsey’s restaurant is closing.
Word spread quickly on social media after a Corporate Manager at Cara Foods met with staff on Sunday to announce the restaurant is closing five days before Christmas.
Cara Foods owns the Kelsey’s restaurant on 16th Street East — which celebrated 21 years in Owen Sound back in May.
Local General Manager Kelly Peer confirms Kelsey’s will close on December 20th.
Peer says the decision for the closure is Cara Foods was unable to negotiate a new lease agreement with Heritage Place, which owns the land.
Close to 40 full time and part time staff work at Kelsey’s and will be out of a job.
Peer tells Bayshore Broadcasting News many of the staff are upset about the decision.
She notes several staff have worked at Kelsey’s for a long period of time — and for some, it was more than a job to them.
Peer says they will understand if employees leave early to get a new job.
Kelsey’s was one of the original restaurants on Owen Sound’s east side — and Peer hopes Kelsey’s will have a party next month before closing to celebrate 21 years in the community.
Peer adds it’s unfortunate the news had to be spread through social media before Cara Foods could thank the community its 21 years in Owen Sound.
