Canada’s National Winter sport is hockey.
Bit by bit, day by day, year after year, the hockey season gets extended, and tends to dwarf every other Canadian sporting activity.
Basketball, for example.
While Steve Nash gets decent play from the sports media, compare his air & print time to that of Sidney Crosby, or the daily happenings in any Canadian NHL centre.
There is no comparison.
Still, the story of Steve Nash is worth documenting, and Toronto based writers Dave Feschuk & Michael Grange have combined to produce, the ” Unlikely Ascent Of A Superstar “.
Nash is followed from his Canadian West Coast basketball roots to the very heights of the NBA with a pair of stints in Phoenix, plus Dallas and now the Lakers, essentially running the show at every stop and copping the MVP award twice.
But as good as Nash is on the court, and he’s obviously among the greats, what stands out from Grange and Feschuk’s account, is character; a guy who is a great teammate at the pro level, but also a generous person as exemplified by his work with the Canadian Men’s program.
