The 2013 World Series continues and could conclude tomorrow night at Fenway Park in Boston.
In an compelling back & forth series, the Red Sox have put together back to back wins and hold a 3-2 series lead heading home.
Overall, this series has had everything; mostly good, but some bad.
In terms of the bad, there have been some fielding gaffes and baserunning blunders that you wouldn’t expect beyond peewee.
However, at the other end of the spectrum, there have been marvelous performances and amazing finishes on both sides of the Series.
The Cardinals won Game 3 on an obstruction call. The right call as far as I was concerned.
The Red Sox won Game 4 when the Cardinals, with the tying run at the plate, had a pinch runner picked off at first base. Where have you gone, Herb Washington ?
Plus the individual performance from David Ortiz who cranks the anticipation meter every time he’s on deck has been exceptional
Going to Game 6, Ortiz who was a question mark as to whether he would play in the field for the games at Busch Stadium is simply hitting .733 with a couple of homers and a half dozen rbi.
As a spectacle, as an endorsement of the sport, this World Series has been perfect for baseball, giving diehard and casual fans the chance to catch their breath today heading to Game 6 tomorrow night at Fenway Park.
I’m Fred Wallace
