An exceptional sequence of baseball playoffs has brought us back to 1967.
The St Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox for the 2013 Championship starting tomorrow night.
In 1967, the Cardinals beat the Red Sox in 7 games with Bob Gibson tossing his third complete game of the series to nail down the title for St Louis
Bob Gibson !
Forty six years later, I wonder, will it be pitching that determines this Canadian centennial flashback championship.
On the road to the World Series, both St Louis & Boston managed to overcome some of the best arms in the contemporary game; Kershaw, Greinke, Scherzer & Verlander are no longer heading to the mound this post season, eliminated by either the Cardinals or the Red Sox.
Yes, I understand pitching is 90 percent of the game. It was when Bob Gibson and Jim Lonborg were hurling 46 years ago.
And yes, the Cardinals and Red Sox both have received tremendous outings from their starters along with clutch relief when required.
But I have an inkling it will be the bats that stand out in the 2013 Fall Classic which hopefully will be as exciting as the preliminary rounds in 2013 and every bit as memorable as the 1967 World Series
