The 27th annual Port Elgin Pumpkinfest begins on Saturday.
Pumpkinfest is known for its pumpkin and vegetable weighing contest, but Special Projects Co-ordinator Stephanie Leeson says there are many more events.
Vendors will sell their works in the Artists Village, youth will be entertaining crowds at the Harvest Star Search, children can have fun at the interactive science tent, and much more.
The Cinderella’s Classic Car Show will display vehicles from 8 AM to 4 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
The car of Elvis Presley’s Dad, the new Corvette Stingray, and an interactive simulation of a Stock Car are just a few.
The rock band “the Trews” will perform on stage at the Cameron Park Ball Diamond in Port Elgin from 4 to 6 PM on Saturday.
This is a family event, and admission is free with the purchase of Pumpkinfest tickets.
In addition to the events new to this year, there will be the traditional seed-spitting contest, and of course the pumpkin weighing contest.
Leeson states the current world-record is a pumpkin weighing 2,009 pounds, but a record breaking squash weighing around 1,700 might make it to the fair.
Last year, around 52,000 people visited Pumpkinfest and it created an economic impact in the region of near five-million-dollars.
Leeson adds Pumpkinfest is non-profit, and the money earned goes to planning next year’s event, and she thanks all of the volunteers for their work.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate; 10 dollars for adults, 6 dollars for seniors (65+). 5 dollars for children 5 to 12, and free for children under 5. All tickets are for both Saturday and Sunday.
