Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
The annual Port Elgin Superspiel is 6 weeks away, although a deadline is looming.
The deadline for rinks to enter Superspiel is Tuesday and the organizers are hoping to have a full field of 24 teams for the event which is conducted at the Port Elgin Curling Club.
As of this week, a dozen teams had confirmed their participation.
Superspiel is a unique curling event on a number of levels.
First of all, it’s open to every rink. Men’s rinks. Women’s rinks. Mixed rinks. Doesn’t matter. Open to all.
And as such, Superspiel serves as a tremendous primer for the Ontario Curling Association season. Before your zone, your regional or your provincial, you’ll already have played in a competitive event.
Plus, it’s not all win-or-lose here.
Superspiel’s reputation through the decades is a social one, the agenda dotted with functions and gatherings and 2013 should be no different.
And on another curling note, the Fall meeting for the Chesley/Tara Insurance Major Curling League is Wednesday October 9th at 8 pm at the Tara Curling Club.
That meeting is for all returning teams and any new teams who wish to enter the league.
Superspiel and the Major League are weeks away from commencing, but the organizational aspects for both of those curling activities are definitely in the present.
I’m Fred Wallace
