It’s an early season contest in the Ontario Hockey League tonight as the Owen Sound Attack go across Highway 26 to face the Colts at the Molson Centre in Barrie.
Barrie won their opening game of the season, stomping Saginaw 7-4.
The Attack are unbeaten in regulation after winning 5-3 at Mississauga, but losing in a shootout in their home opener to Peterborough.
The Colts are coming off a dramatic season in which they were seconds away from forcing overtime in Game 7 of the Robertson Cup Final against the Knights who broke their hearts on the Bo Horvat goal.
The differences between the Colts and Attack at this point in time, come down to experience.
Up front, the Colts can come at you with a balanced attack, or put the eggs in one basket with Hall, Theoret & Athanasciou on a line.
And perhaps a more striking contrast is on the blueline where Barrie had 6 guys with OHL experience in their opener last week, while the 3-4 combo for Owen Sound last week; Thomas Schemitsch & Damir Sharipzyanov were making their OHL debuts.
Yes, the return of Chris Bigras to the attack is big, but the Colts still have a half vets on the blueline while the Attack D are a work in progress.
So based on experience, the Colts would be the favorite tonight.
But in the always progressing cycle of the OHL, it will be interesting to see if Owen Sound can meet that challenge this evening and bypass it in short order.
I’m Fred Wallace
