The Wiarton area is in good shape now, with eight doctors working in the community.
The latest addition is Doctor David Diodati who will begin taking patients October 1st.
He will also handle shifts in the Wiarton hospital, and be sharing an office with Doctor Jeff Barrett.
Councillor Matt Standen — the Chairman of South Bruce Peninsula’s Physician Retention and Recruitment Committee — says Doctor Diodati has been in Owen Sound for close to two years doing his locum and he is finished now.
Standen says the committee has been quite aggressive in its recruiting of doctors for South Bruce Peninsula.
He says they are in good shape now, but the job is never done as some will be coming up for retirement soon.
One challenge he says is the Sauble family health team which needs more full time doctors.
Standen says with the progress made in Wiarton, the committee will be shifting it’s focus to Sauble.
Anyone looking to become a patient of Diodati’s can call Barrett’s office at 519-534-5220.
